DESCRIPTION:Description: Creative service learning projects focused on the urgent need for reconciliation\, preservation of historic and cultural centers\, and advocacy for equal rights for marginalized populations will take place at the historic Quindaro Underground Railroad Commemorative landmark site in Kansas City\, Kansas in honor of “Emancipation Day” and “National Freedom Day” on April 16th and 17th. Students throughout Kansas and Missouri will come together virtually and in person for two days of service and learning to help end racism throughout the world\, take a stand against bullying\, help preserve historic landmarks\, collaborate with their peers to advocate for marginalized communities\, and to bring awareness to the stories of the Underground Railroad. The service learning projects will address issues such as equity\, diversity\, inclusion\, reconciliation\, anti-bullying\, and race in 21st-century America. \n  \nService learning projects Include:  \n\nMural painting of Harriet Tubman & Nelson Mandela inside of the Vernon-Multi Purpose Center Underground Railroad Museum\nRestoration of the Bishop Vernon Community Garden\nBeautification of the Underground Railroad passageways\nVirtual service learning project that focuses on Emancipation and Freedom\n\nMasks will be required and social distancing guidelines will be followed at the in-person service sites.
